Early Cincinnati brewers shipping their beers into Tennessee would generously hop their beer to prevent spoilage during the long, arduous trip over the Cumberland Trail. This classic interpretation of an American Pale Ale features a solid foundation of pale ale malt, loaded with fresh Cascade hops. It's been said that few barrels ever actually made it into Tennessee, as they were traded away for coonskin caps or simply enjoyed along the way! Here's to getting where you're going!

BarrelHouse Bock
Beer style: German Bock Lager
Malts: varies
Hops: varies
Alcohol by volume: varies
Color: varies
Food complement: varies
There's an old myth that brewers clean their kettles in the spring and Bock beer is made from the residue in the kettle. There's not a shred of truth in it. These traditional beers are meant to warm the soul after a long winter.
We make a special batch of Bock every Spring for Cincinnati's famous BockFest. The style varies from year to year. Our Helles Bock is a golden colored brew with a smooth, deep malt flavor, but sometimes we make it as a Maibock, with a delightful hop aroma. It might even be a darker, Traditional Bock. You'll just have to wait until Spring to find out!
